Last year, I featured a series entitled “Exploded Flowers” by Fong Qi Wei. The artist has launched a new collection of floral work that includes remakes of famous art pieces, such as “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by Katsushika Hokusai and “Sunflowers” by Vincent van Gogh. They look really fantastic and so beautiful!

Beautiful Spring Blossoms – Central Park – New York City

Spring Cherry Blossoms - Central Park - New York City

It’s quite incredible how many trees are already in full spring bloom already. Usually the trees aren’t this far along with their blossoms until the middle of April or even the beginning of May. This particular photo which I took yesterday is of a favorite spring spot of mine in Central Park. It conjures up fairytale narratives and fills my heart with hope.

The spring blossoms on these trees are so gorgeous when they first bloom. When the wind blows little white and pink petals shed from their blossoms swirling in the air before falling to the ground, a phenomenon I like to refer to as spring snow.

Sea Ice in Antarctica

Antarctica is the coldest continent on the planet and is roughly the size of the United States and Mexico combined.

Experts believe that it contains 90 percent of the planet’s ice. It is covered in a layer of ice that is roughly a mile thick, reaching as many as 3 miles of thickness in certain areas.

The ice in Antarctica formed over millions of years of snowfall, covering a landmass that is made up of mountains and plains.

The Burj Al Arab

We feel woefully inadequate as we hand the keys to our rented Ford hatchback to the valet in front of the Burj Al Arab, the most luxurious hotel in the world.

Around us is a flurry of activity as guests and valets drop off and hand back extravagant vehicles — mostly blinged out SUVs that dwarf our modest little car.

No matter. We shrug off our inadequacies and enter the hotel confidently even though we are not guests at the hotel. We’ve only come to indulge in an afternoon tea at the Skyview Bar.

Melk Abbey Staircase, Melk, Austria

You may recognize this mazelike Benedictine abbey overlooking the Danube River as inspiration for Umberto Eco’s popular novel The Name of the Rose.

It’s full of architectural flourishes like this Rococo-style spiral staircase—best viewed from underneath to catch a glimpse of the pink-and-gold painted underside.

While the staircase leads to other rooms of the library, they aren’t open to the public.
